What that means.
This site runs Google Tag Manager, which loads Google Analytics. That sets a small number of analytics cookies, and nothing else. No advertising, no marketing pixels, no selling anything on to anyone, and no attempt to work out who you personally are.
A cookie, for the record, is a small text file a website saves in your browser so it can remember something about you between visits (a login, a preference, or which pages you looked at).
What I actually get out of it is dull and aggregated: which pages get read, roughly how long people stay, and whether anyone reaches the bottom of the page. That's it. It tells me whether the writing is working.
The full list.
| cookie | set by | purpose | lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells returning visitors apart from new ones. Anonymous id, no personal details. | 13 months |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Remembers the session state for the analytics property. | 13 months |

What you can do.
You can block, restrict or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings, and this site will keep working exactly the same. Nothing here depends on them. If you'd rather opt out of Google Analytics everywhere, Google publish a browser add-on that does exactly that.
Questions?
If anything here is unclear, that's a bug in the writing, not in you. Email me at hello@tombuilds.dev and I'll give you a straight answer.
